A long time ago, someone told me the 11th commandment:

“Thou shalt not ‘should’ on thyself.”

How funny — and yet how true. If you’re like me, you regularly think about how you “should” be doing something. Whether it’s:
  • I should be more productive
  • I should be feeling better
  • I should be doing a better job
  • I should have exercised this morning or made better food choices

…and the list goes on and on.

Here’s the thing — there’s really no upside to these “should” thoughts.

They weigh us down and leave us feeling guilty, shamed, and stuck.

So, what now?

Try replacing “should” with “could.”
  • “I could weigh less.”
  • “I could exercise more.”
  • “I could eat healthier.”
 
Suddenly, it’s empowering. You can decide:

👉 I could do it now.

👉 I could do it later.

👉 I could choose not to — and be okay with that.

Once you’ve explored what you could do, you can move into the “I will” stage, if you choose to:
  • “I will take a 20-minute walk today”
  • “I will enjoy one healthy meal”
  • “I will try a small change I’ve been avoiding”
 
This is where action becomes possible.

You focus, commit, and make choices that actually move you forward.

Should → Could → I Will

There are still 8 weeks left in 2025.

Two months is plenty of time to feel lighter, stronger, and more confident heading into the new year.
