Vicky Countess

One of my friends said something this week that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

She has osteoporosis.

And she looked at me and said:

“I just don’t want to fall. I’ll do anything to make sure it doesn’t happen.”

There was fear in her voice. But there was also determination.

Because when you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, a fall isn’t just a fall anymore.

A simple misstep can become a fracture.

And a fracture can change everything.

I think about this every day.

My mother-in-law missed one step at age 85.

That’s it.

One step.

She never lived independently again.

My own mom fell and broke her hip, too.

But she recovered and went on to live into her 90s.

Same type of injury.

Completely different outcome.

None of us can control everything.

But we can improve the odds.

That’s what interests me most these days—not how to eliminate risk entirely, but how to stay stronger, steadier, and more resilient as we age.

That’s why I’m hosting a free live workshop next Thursday.

We’ll talk about:

• What your bone density scan can—and can’t—tell you

• Why two women with similar scores can have very different fracture risks

• The role balance, strength, posture, medications, and lifestyle play in bone health

• Practical steps you can take now to help protect your independence

Because the goal isn’t to live in fear of falling.

The goal is to build a body and a life that lets you move through the world with confidence.

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking what my friend said — “I just don’t want this to happen to me” — I’d love for you to be there.

And if someone you love comes to mind while reading this, feel free to forward it along.

Warmly,

Vicky
